ADA Handle
It introduces a simple and elegant solution to the Cardano ecosystem, a username for your address, simple to remember.
In the case of ADA Handle, it is called this your $handle, and denote it with $. The reason $ instead of @ is because across most social media platforms, @ is a unique identifier of a platform user. Trying to use this on social would sometimes tag a random user (for instance if your $handle was different than your Twitter username).
A $handle user is determined by their NFT, and secured under a PolicyID.
$handle by definition is not a privacy solution. By purchasing a $handle, the address that it points to is simply the UTXO that it resides in (this is why technically anyone can query the data, and why we refer to $handles as dynamic address resolvers).
Furthermore, the concept of a human-readable address alone is somewhat of a privacy allowance in that it makes your address memorable.
That being said, there are some solutions we have in mind to better protect user-privacy when utilizing a $handle:
- Burner $handles (essentially allowing users to burn them at will)
- UTXO Mixer (an interface that simplifies moving your $handle to a new UTXO)
Still, using a $handle is entirely optional. For the die-hard privacy fans, using the traditional Cardano UTXO addresses is likely preferrable (and free).
